“Spending capacity has gone up, and so has the ticket size of travel. People are now booking better properties, and tourists’ aspirations have evolved. There’s a clear preference for branded stays, where standardised service and consistency matter.” – Ankit Bajaj, Travel Expert from Ahmedabad
If we tell you that Gujarat’s Ahmedabad city is growing at the fastest speed not only in India but also compared to many major cities around the world, it won’t be wrong. Whether it is infrastructure development, business growth, or hosting national and international sports events, Ahmedabad is moving ahead very fast.
This is the reason why a lot of money is being invested in hospitality infrastructure in Ahmedabad. Small to big hotel brands and chains from India and abroad have either already set up their presence in Ahmedabad or are planning to do so.
Today, if you step out on the streets of Ahmedabad, you will find branches of ITC, Marriott, Hyatt, and Milton hotels everywhere. In this situation, Gujpreneur will explain how Ahmedabad has become a golden city for hotels and how Gujarati people are benefiting from it.
Ahmedabad’s Hospitality Boom: From Business Hubs to Big Brands
According to a Times of India report, nearly 6,500 rooms of premium hotel brands are already functional in Ahmedabad. Plus, 1,200 luxury rooms are under construction and will be opened soon.
Let’s first understand the reasons why so many world-class hotels are opening in Ahmedabad.
2030 Commonwealth Games
The 2030 Commonwealth Games will be hosted in Ahmedabad city in Gujarat. This is a mega sports event where thousands of participants from India and abroad will arrive and showcase their talent.
2036 Olympics
The Government of India has submitted a bid to host the 2036 Olympics, the world’s biggest sports event. For this bidding, Ahmedabad city has been selected. If the Olympics committee approves this, it will be a huge achievement not only for Ahmedabad but for the whole of India.
GIFT City
The Government of India and the Government of Gujarat have set up their ambitious project, Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, on the banks of the Sabarmati River between Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad. This has been launched keeping business, finance, tech start-ups, and IT companies in mind.
These are the main reasons why famous hotel brands from around the world are setting up their properties in Ahmedabad city.
Key Developments in Ahmedabad
“Ahmedabad is fast emerging as a progressive hospitality hub, fuelled by Gujarat’s industrial growth and visionary governance. Improved infrastructure, global events like the G20 and the Coldplay concert, and a rise in inbound travel have elevated the city’s appeal.” – Prashant Chadha, General Manager, Le Meridien Ahmedabad
Now, let us understand the names of those premium hotels that are setting up rooms in Ahmedabad, and what they have done so far.
- InterContinental Hotels Group: Ahmedabad realty firm AG Group has recently signed a deal with IHG for a 150-key Holiday Inn hotel that will be built near the New Science City area.

- Hyatt Hotels: The Gandhinagar-based Kavyaratna Group has also signed a deal with international hotel brand Hyatt to open a new property in GIFT City. Along with this, one more property is planned in the Sanand Industrial Estate.

- Marriott’s Le Méridien: According to The Hindu Business Line, Marriott plans to open a new JW Marriott property. Its construction will take place inside the Adani Shantigram campus along SG Highway.

- Indian Hotels Company Limited: According to the Indian Retailer, IHCL also plans to open two new premium hotels near Ahmedabad Airport. It will be with an investment of ₹1,500 crore, which will be handled by the Adani Group.

- Accor Hotels: As per Shiva Group, Accor have also announced hotels in Ahmedabad and GIFT City.

In simple words, because of the growing business opportunities and confirmed world-class sports events, all major premium hotel brands want to set up their presence in this city. And those who already have properties here want to expand or open more branches.
Entrepreneur and Business Angle
“Gujarat’s expanding industrial hubs are attracting executives from across the globe, and with them comes the demand for quality, standardised accommodation. We plan three properties targeting the growing need for well-run business hotels.” – Vikram Bharwad, Property Developer
At Gujpreneur, we do not miss any story or angle that matters for Gujarat’s entrepreneurs or businessmen. So, now it’s time to understand how this chain of hotels opening in Ahmedabad will put more money into the pockets of common Gujarati people.
Job Creation
According to an ICRA Report 2025, around 30 lakh jobs have been created directly and indirectly in the hospitality sector. This number will increase even more in the coming years. These include everything from labour-based roles to white-collar jobs. For example:
- Hotel operations (Guest services, Housekeeping)
- Culinary arts
- Event management
- Sales
- Marketing
- Hospitality technology
Food and Beverages
Where business meetings and big conferences take place, people naturally go out to explore food afterwards. This means local food shops, cafes, restaurants, and chain-outlet businesses all earn more.
Real Estate and Property
When big companies build huge hotels in any city, land prices do not just increase two or three times – they may rise even 10 times. For people living in Ahmedabad, this becomes passive income. And those involved in land deals also earn a lot.
SME & Support Enterprises
Earlier, we told you about the food and beverage business, but that’s not the only one benefiting. You can think of offering many premium and essential services – from wellness to spa, from music parties to babysitting.
Gen Z Opportunities
When we stay in a limited environment, we don’t think of anything new. But when world-class athletes and top business people come and live around you, you get a chance to interact with them and learn more – and that leads to new ideas. This is the treasure of knowledge Ahmedabad’s Gen Z will receive. It will prove to be a boon in the future. This is nothing less than a hidden gem.
According to a TeamLease 2025 report, 66% of companies related to travel and hospitality are planning to expand. Among them, 49% consider Ahmedabad the top city in Tier-1 categories. From this, you can understand that the upcoming time in hospitality belongs to Gujarat. And within Gujarat, it belongs to Ahmedabad city.
