Gujarat’s Billion-Dollar Wedding Industry: How Homegrown Talent Built an Empire

Gujarat does several things altogether, but something that it can ace is to celebrate any occasion. With soul, scale, and a perfect sense of Dhandho- that’s what makes every ceremony here special. For Gujaratis wedding aren’t just ceremonies. They’re cinematic. Cultural. Commercial. A perfect mix of passion and profit.

And while the world drools over the glitz, we’re turning the lens toward the real architects of this empire — homegrown wedding planners who’ve built businesses on emotion, elegance, and entrepreneurial fire.

The Business of Love: Wedding Industry of Gujarat

Before it was common, before even Virushka wedding, Gujarati families were already turning their Lagan into a grand affair. Way long before destination weddings became a trend. For Gujaratis the celebration of love is a multi-million-dollar industry. On the seasonality of weddings, generations of weavers, jewellers, caterers, and artists based their businesses. They distilled cultural rituals into revenue streams.

However, it isn’t only about scaling but about storytelling. Marriage here isn’t limited to bride and groom and what they wish to do. It is a divided dream of whole family to have a big fat Indian wedding calling 500-1500 guests or more. Every family has a different story, wishes, requirements, and narrative for the wedding. The entrepreneurial spirit of Dhando in Gujarat fuelled the state’s rise as a wedding industry giant. It created a new kind of Gujpreneurs who redesigned the way weddings are celebrated.
