Indian swimmers displayed their brilliance to set a new record in the final day of the swimming and diving events of the Asian Aquatics Championships 2025 in the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad.
The Veer Savarkar Stadium in Ahmedabad was abuzz with over 1,100 swimmers, coaches, and support staff arriving from 29 nations for the 11th edition of the marquee continental event, which is also the qualifying event for the Asian Games to be held in Nagoya, Japan, next year.
The event will conclude on October 11, with swimmers set to compete in events like swimming, diving, aquatic swimming, and water polo.
Asian Aquatics Championships 2025: India’s Premier Swimmers Shine
The trio of premier Indian swimmers Srihari Nataraj, Bhavya Sachdeva, Sajan Prakash and the men’s relay team won bronze in their respective events in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
It was the final day of the swimming and diving events where the Indian swimmers set a new benchmark with four medals at the 11th Asian Aquatics Championships 2025. In Ahmedabad, on the final day of the event, Bhavya Sachdeva bagged a bronze medal by starting on the third lane while her compatriot Aditi Satish Hegde started from the second.
Japan’s Tanimoto Haruno (4:16.39) took the pole position right from the onset while Bhavya strived hard to head marginally ahead after the 150m mark.
Meanwhile, Vietnam’s Kha Nhi Nguyen (4:25.50) remained close to Bhavya and overtook her to take the second spot on the podium. Bhavya (4:26.89) settled for the bronze medal, claiming the first podium spot for India in the women’s category.
In the men’s 200m Butterfly event, Sajan Prakash took the bronze medal with a timing of 1:57.90 while his compatriot Srihari Natraj finished third with a timing of 55.23 in the men’s 100m backstroke.
