For over two decades, Vishal Sharma has been at the forefront of marketing, branding, and business growth across some of India’s most recognized companies. Having built brands in industries ranging from telecom and consumer electronics to media and entertainment, he has now begun what he calls the biggest career transition of his professional journey. He was heading the marketing department of the Gujarati Cluster at JioStar, and he will now lead the India operations at J Brrothers LLC.

In an exclusive conversation with Gujpreneur, Vishal Sharma spoke about the decision behind his career move, his leadership philosophy, the growing role of artificial intelligence, and why he believes business growth is driven by trust, adaptability, and continuous learning rather than titles alone.

From Building Brands to Managing Business Operations

In his career, Vishal Sharma has worked in leadership positions at OPPO, Videocon Mobile Phones, Viacom18 and JioStar, where he successfully led several large-scale marketing initiatives, IP monetisation projects and brand building campaigns across multiple states.

But this new assignment is a big change. Now he is responsible for handling India operations for J Brrothers LLC, helping the company’s business in the US market. The India team plays a crucial operational role, managing digital marketing, creative services, packaging, inventory management, account support, analytics and other back-office business functions that support the company’s operations overseas.

The business remains in the US, but India becomes the operational backbone,” he explains. “I’ll be able to draw on every experience I’ve gained over the years in this role.”.

Why Changing Industries Creates Better Leaders

One of the unique things about his career has been his willingness to work across diverse industries He’s never settled into a niche like the pros who spend decades in one industry, but he’s always thrown himself into entirely different business environments.

From consumer electronics and mobile handsets, to television broadcasting, and now international operations, each transition meant learning new markets, different consumer behaviours and adapting to entirely new business models.

This constant reinvention has kept him motivated. “Every time you change industries, you start learning again,” he says. “You learn about new customers, new products and new business challenges. That’s something I’ve always liked.”

Artificial Intelligence Is an Opportunity, Not a Threat

As AI is rapidly transforming industries around the world, many professionals are still debating whether automation will eventually replace humans in the workplace. But Vishal Sharma sees it quite differently.

I am not afraid of artificial intelligence. It’s not something to take on,” he says confidently. “AI is our friend.”

He says the discussion should not be centered on job losses but on how organizations can take better advantage of AI to improve productivity and decision-making. “The real question is not whether AI exists, the real question is whether we will know how to make it work for us and meet our goals.” says Vishal Sharma. For example, he has implemented AI in some processes in his company, expecting it to be responsible for a lot more operations in the future.

Leadership Begins With Trust, Not Control

Having led large teams throughout his career Vishal Sharma strongly believes leadership has very little to do with authority and everything to do with trust.

He doesn’t want to micromanage employees or put in place strict workplace protocols, but rather to create a culture where employees feel trusted and empowered to make decisions. “You have to help people understand that they will grow because of you,” he says. “If I grow, you grow. If you grow, we grow all together.”

For him, ownership beats hierarchy by a mile. He believes that all employees should have a personal stake in the success of the organization, rather than just doing what they are told. This philosophy also influences the workplace culture he hopes to develop at J Brrothers LLC.

Building a Workplace People Enjoy Coming To

Speaking on the company culture, Vishal Sharma says he has never believed in unnecessary corporate controls. He has been fortunate in his own career to work in organizations where trust has prevailed over rigid attendance systems and excessive monitoring. That experience has helped shape the type of workplace he wants to build now.

The culture I want to build is one where people are really excited to come to work.” Vishal Sharma says “culture is established from day one.” He thinks organizational culture is one of the strongest long-term business assets, from creating a welcoming work environment to ensuring employees have positive experiences inside the office.

Organic Growth Over Paid Visibility

Interestingly, Sharma’s first initiative after joining wasn’t an expensive marketing campaign. Instead, he focused on organically growing the company’s digital presence. “You can’t buy credibility,” he says. Real engagement, ongoing communication and authentic storytelling build stronger brands than short-term marketing spends.

Learning Never Stops

When asked what advice he would give to aspiring business leaders, Vishal Sharma doesn’t just stop at technical skills. Instead, he urges professionals to continue trying new things, to be open to learning, and not to get too comfortable in one industry or role.

His career is proof of that philosophy. With each transition, telecom to media and now to international operations, he’s broadened his understanding of business and deepened his leadership approach.

Vishal Sharma’s journey is a testament to the fact that leadership today is more than simply marketing, sales or operations. Today’s business leaders must balance revenue, technology, customer behaviour, organizational culture and global markets all at once.

After building brands for some of India’s biggest companies, Vishal Sharma’s new challenge is to build scalable business operations to support international growth. He dedicated the initial 22 years of his career to developing successful brands. At the moment, he has taken on a leadership position that entails broader operational duties.
