Freeedom Raas Ahmedabad: Where Garba Meets Social Responsibility

What if attending Garba could do more than bring people together? What if every celebration could support a child’s education, empower women, or contribute to the well-being of the elderly?

Freeedom Raas Ahmedabad brings this idea to life by connecting Navratri celebrations with a larger social purpose. Built around the theme “Raas, Rhythm and Responsibility,” the initiative brings people together through Garba while directing attention towards meaningful community impact.

Supported by Freeedom Foundation and Sahaay Foundation, Freeedom Raas reflects how cultural celebrations can become opportunities to contribute to society. Its purpose extends beyond the dance floor, bringing together people who believe that celebration can also create change.

Beyond the Garba: Empowering Women Through Every Hamper

One of the most meaningful aspects of Freeedom Raas lies in the thought behind its curated hampers. Rather than treating them as ordinary event merchandise, the initiative created an opportunity for women associated with Saksham to contribute their skills and work.

Zeal Shah, Chief Trust Officer at Freeedom Foundation and Co-founder of Sahaay Foundation, explains the thinking behind the initiative.

“When we were curating the hampers for Freeedom Raas, we thought, why not have the women at Saksham make these products? That’s what empowerment means. Imagine 35 women contributing to these hampers, with every cushion cover carrying their time, skill, and effort. Through Freeedom Raas, we want to empower women to do better in society. That’s what Raas, Rhythm and Responsibility represents; celebrating Garba with a purpose.”

The idea demonstrates how empowerment can become part of the way an event is organised. By creating opportunities for women to contribute their skills, the initiative connects celebration with participation, dignity, and economic opportunity.

Every product becomes a reminder that meaningful social impact can begin with the decisions made behind the scenes.

Every Contribution Supports a Larger Cause

For Freeedom Raas, participation is not limited to attending an event. It also represents an opportunity to contribute towards causes that need sustained attention.

Speaking about the initiative, Mit Gandhi , partner of Freeedom Raas, highlights how attendance connects with the organisation’s wider mission.

“When you attend Freeedom Raas, you’re contributing to a cause. The contributions go towards Equality, Education, and Elderly Care. It’s a contribution that can help a child who has never been to school get the opportunity to receive an education. For us, it’s about making every celebration count towards something meaningful.”

This perspective gives the celebration a purpose beyond entertainment. The idea is to channel the collective participation of families, friends, and communities towards initiatives that can make a difference in people’s lives.

The Triple E Mission: Equality, Education and Elderly Care

At the heart of Freeedom Raas is the Triple E mission: Equality, Education, and Elderly Care.

These three priorities reflect the broader social purpose behind the initiative. Equality focuses attention on creating opportunities and enabling participation. Education highlights the importance of helping children access learning opportunities. Elderly Care recognises the need to support and care for senior citizens.

Together, these priorities connect the spirit of community celebration with social responsibility. They also demonstrate that meaningful contributions do not always require a separate occasion. Sometimes, an existing cultural tradition can become a platform for supporting causes that matter.

Devarshi Shah: Turning Celebration into a Commitment

Actor Devarshi Shah also emphasised the importance of bringing purpose into celebrations. For him, initiatives like Freeedom Raas offer an opportunity for families and friends to come together while contributing to something larger than themselves.

“I feel that more and more initiatives and celebrations like this should happen, where the festivities come with a purpose. We are all here together with our families and friends, celebrating for a good cause. We should also take a sankalp, a collective commitment to reach more children through Navratri and the spirit of Navraas. I don’t think there can be a greater thing to do in Kalyug than to use our celebrations to reach out and make a difference in their lives.”

His message reinforces the idea that cultural traditions can carry a larger responsibility. By using the spirit of Navratri to reach more children and support meaningful causes, celebrations can become a shared commitment to the community.

Gujpreneur Takeaway: When Culture Creates Community Impact

Freeedom Raas Ahmedabad demonstrates how cultural celebrations can bring people together around a shared purpose. From creating opportunities for women through handmade products to directing contributions towards equality, education, and elderly care, the initiative connects participation with social responsibility.

For businesses and community-led initiatives, the broader lesson is clear: purpose becomes more meaningful when it is built into action. When people, resources, and cultural traditions come together around a common cause, a celebration can create value that extends well beyond the event itself.
